Meet Makayla, a resilient 20-year-old woman who not too long ago found herself entangled in the suffocating grip of severe depression and anxiety. Her story serves as a powerful testament to the life-changing impact of Victor's Transitional Age Youth (TAY) program, where lives are not just improved but transformed.

Makayla's journey began with immense difficulty, marked by the weight of her mental health struggles that made even the simplest daily tasks seem insurmountable. Discover how Makayla found a glimmer of hope and made a pivotal decision that set her on a path to remarkable transformation.

A Difficult Beginning

Makayla's journey began with a heavy burden. She struggled with severe depression and anxiety, making it challenging for her to navigate through life's daily tasks. Medication compliance, attending therapy sessions, college classes, and even socializing with others felt like insurmountable challenges. There were days when Makayla wouldn't emerge from her room, eat, or even take care of her personal hygiene.

A Turning Point

But within those moments of darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged. Makayla made a pivotal decision – she committed to holding herself accountable for her life and well-being. That commitment would set her on a path to remarkable transformation.

When asked what had changed for her, Makayla replied with determination in her voice, "I knew things needed to change, and I was ready."

Over the course of 16 months in Victor's TAY program, Makayla embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery and growth. She didn't just meet her treatment goals; she exceeded them.

Overcoming Hurdles

One of Makayla's most significant personal goals was to no longer rely on medication to manage her mental health. Through unwavering dedication and support from the TAY program, she achieved that goal. Her resilience and strength shone through as she conquered the challenges that once seemed insurmountable.

A Bright Future Beckons

Today, Makayla stands as an inspiration to all who know her. She's not just moving forward; she's thriving. Makayla is making a life-changing decision to live on campus, while completing her final two years of college at a prestigious four-year university. She's not just a student; she's a shining example of determination and possibility.

Makayla's story doesn't end with academics alone. She's working full-time, showcasing newfound confidence and social skills that she honed through active participation in TAY Groups and events. She's a testament to what it means to bet on oneself and never give up.
